Plant based medicine has
been used by humans for many thousands of years, bound by empirical
knowledge and wisdom. Supported and validated by current scientific
research methods, medicinal herbs offer a safe method of treating
the ailments of the individual.
As more people discover
that herbal medicine is an effective and comparably inexpensive form
of health care, they have learnt that it is as useful in preventing
disease as it is in removing one’s ailments.
The philosophy of herbal
medicine closely follows that of Naturopathy, seeking the cause of
one’s condition. I find that a major advantage of using
phytotherapeutics is that I can blend many combinations of herbs for
a formula that truly is specific for the individual. Changes can be
implemented at any stage of recovery, therefore, linking the
improvement in health with the Iridology analysis.
It is true that many of
today’s pharmaceuticals originated from plant pharmacology. However,
it is the complete therapeutics of the whole plant and not a single
isolated chemical that is the value of using herbal medicine. The
blending of multiple herbs for a formula allows the practitioner to
prescribe herbs that assist the systems of the body such as the
lymphatic, the digestive or the nervous system with the one formula.
This eliminates the need for many different types of medicines that
may have been used for the ailments of the person.
A
consultation with a thorough history taking, will determine the
choice of herbal medicines that will be used. All of my herbal
medicines are taken as a liquid, mostly at mealtime. |
